Trails dragged

The Russian River Campground trails have been worked over with the drag..Should be good classical and skate skiing. Dress warm as its cold out there. We'll get the groomer up and running early next week. Happy New Years!!!!

Trails are packed!!!

Just groomed all Russian River Campground trails as well as the new trail...Conditions are great for classical and skate skiing. Once the snow sets up a bit we'll set a track. Enjoy the new snow!!!

Holiday Snow been groomed!!!

Just rolled and packed the Russian River Campground trails plus the new trail. Moose have been busy in the upper campground loops. Both classical and skate skiing should be great for the Holidays...Merry Christmas!!

Packed new snow & it's still snowing!!

Just rolled the Russian River Campground loops. Snow falling heavily, so we'll be back out after the snow ends. Temp's mild and quite "wintery" out...Enjoy the new snow!

Just finished rolling and packing the RRCG trails, including the new trail. Once this sets up, we'll get the groomer out and smooth out some rough spots. Both skate and classical skiing should be great. Enjoy the new snow!!!

Icy conditions

It 's pretty icy out there so be careful. We're trying to drag the entire trail system in order to get better skiing conditions. Until we get some new snow, it's going to be icy and fast. Be careful

Rolled to the Falls

Took the roller and packed on the RR Falls trail to the Bridge, then just packed to the Falls with the snow machine. Once this sets up, we'll get out and smooth and widen a bit more. Pray for cooler temps!!!!!

Wet snow packed!!

Just rolled and packed the new wet snow throughout the RRCG trails, including the new trail...Will make for a good base. Classical skiing is best as base is still a little soft. Once it hardens, we'll put the groomer to work. Get out and enjoy the warm temps

Cold but groomed

Trails have been packed and groomed...get out and enjoy the conditions while you can. Also, check out our new Trail Sign; located to your right as you pass the "check-in station". Just groomed...Yea!!!

Just groomed all trails, plus the new trail, and have set a track. Skiing should be good. There's some debris on trails due to the winds; other than that, should be good skate and classical skiing. Get out there!!!

Packed sticky snow

Just rolled and packed the road to Grayling, all campground loops and the "new trail". As of 3pm, snow is sticky, use warm wax. Temp's are going to drop this week which should make for some faster skiing. Please walk/snow shoe to the sides of the groomed areas and please clean-up after your dogs. "Brown clister" is tough on the equipment. Thanks!!!

Just Packed and groomed

Hey skiers: Just packed the road to Grayling as well as the five campground loops. The new "trail", go to the left of the main gate, go up to another gate and take the left trail, has been packed. Its about 5k round trip with gentle uphills. I'll keep packing until we get a good base then start using the groomer.

First 2011 Grooming Report

Welcome skiers! After our first snow fall of the season, we got the grooming equipment staged over to the RRCG, we started rolling and packing the road all the way into Grayling Parking lot. We haven't packed all the campground loops yet as the gates are locked. We'll get them opened shortly. Also, we're grooming a "new" trail. Before you get to the main gate to the campground, there is another road to your left. Follow this up to another gate and you'll see a groomed road to your left. This old logging road goes for a mile and dead-ends above Gwinn's Lodge. Nice gentle hills; adequate for both classical and skate skiing. We've also got 2 new groomers, Natalia A. and Katie F.; thanks to both of the them. Enjoys the conditions; more snow would help!!

SEASON END

Well folks, we stored all the grooming equipment for the Season! It was a Great first season. Thanks to all for the positive feedback and great trail etiquette! See ya' next ski season!!! Thanks...The Groomers

It is hard to say goodbye...

Get out and enjoy the remaining skiing. The base is intact but thin and warm temps mean the dusting will be gone soon letting the pavement continue to creep in.

RR CAMPGROUND GROOMED

Just finished grooming the RR Campground Road to Grayling and the Campground Loops. A Classic track has been set. The main road is in good shape; there are "thin" spots in the campground loops. With our warm temp's, skiing will be best in the morning and mid- evenings. Enjoy it while you can...not sure how much longer we'll be able to groom.

Texture is back

Some said the campground was an icy place where your skis could find no purchase. The cold temps won't help but hopefully a little resurfacing will. The road and last three loops should be good skiing. Enjoy.

Trail to Falls

We drug out the trail to the falls again today. It is a little wider and several folks have been able to skate it. The hill down to the falls, however, may be exciting whichever skis you are on.

Groomed but warm

Ed and I drug the trail up to the falls yesterday. It was great skiing in the afternoon. I groomed the campground road and loops later but warmer temps today will make conditions pretty soft.

Fresh Snow = New Corduroy

The snow just kept coming Friday and pillow-topped the loops. I groomed earlier than usual this evening so all the freshies can set up nicely overnight. Everything in the campground is groomed and classic track is set everywhere but the transitions. The entrance is orphaned for the time being since someone parked past the Road Closed sign next to the gate. Once they leave some repair will be in order.

Great Snow

Russian River Falls

The Kachemak Bay Ski Club graciously loaned us a drag. We widened and groomed the trail to the Falls. Skate skiing is feasible, but best to make the 2+ mile trip on classical skiis. Beautiful ski.

Gouged out is groomed again

Heard there were some snowmachine tracks in the campground. Warm snow means deep marks so I headed out to groom and found they had cut up everything pretty good, crossing the classic tracks frequently, weaving what seemed like aimlessly. It took a fair bit to comb out.

The campground is all groomed out now but please spread the word to drive, on the non-river side of the classic tracks to the trailhead and if, for some reason, it is necessary to drive in the campground - to do so in a manner that minimizes the mess.

Ugly stuff

Tried a few passes with the groomer yesterday.....grooming teeth did scour a little, but it would take a lot of passes to get it ski-able. Hopefully the temps will warm-up a little or we get a new dump of snow. If anyone wants to donate $150k...we'll get a piston bulley and have everything groomed up in a flash. Otherwise, it's going to take a while. Thanks for your patience.

No Bueno

Not so much snow as bulletproof ice. Skiing is no bueno but hiking is easy without the possibility of postholing. Think snowfall thoughts.
